Jack Sundrud
Bass Guitar/Vocals 1969-1973
Jack was a founding member of Podipto, and together with John, wrote most of the band's songs that so many fans remember 40 years later.
Today, Jack is a respected Nashville songwriter and bassist/vocalist who recently marked over 29 years since he began touring and recording with venerable country rock band Poco, a band that Podipto opened for back in the 1970s. Podipto fans would be well-served by checking out his recordings, including his work with Craig Bickhardt in their band Idlewheel.
Jack moved to Nashville in 1981, where he quickly became bassist/vocalist for some of Music City's top touring acts: Vince Gill, Dickie Betts, Bobby Whitlock, Gail Davies, The O'Kanes, Nicolette Larson, Kathy Mattea, Poco and more.
While touring with Michael Johnson's band, Jack's songs were brought to the attention of the Judd's producer, Brent Maher. This led to the formation of Great Plains (also featuring Russ Pahl, Denny Bixby and Michael Young) an edgy country-rock band fronted by Sundrud, who recorded for Columbia Records. The band's single release, “Faster Gun” became a top 25 radio hit in 1992.
Before re-joining Poco on the road and in the studio in 2000, Jack co-wrote (with Michael Johnson) 4Runners breakout hit, “Cain's Blood” and Ty Herndon's #1, “It Must Be Love” (with Craig Bickhardt).
Among the artists who have also recorded Sundrud's songs: Kenny Rogers, The Judds, Ricochet, The Persuasions, Michael Johnson and many more.
